Cambodian Acid Survivors Charity / from Wikipedia
In the first 8 months of 2010, the number of victims of acid attack has seen a remarkable increase compared to the same period of the previous year, said Chhum Chenda Sophea, a public relation manager at Cambodian Acid Survivors Charity (CASC), which work in Cambodia to provide free medical care to acid burn patients.
Chhum Chenda Sophea said that since the beginning of 2010, there had been 24 victims of 20 acid attack cases in various area in the kingdom.
In foreign countries, acid is used for business such as producing rechargeable batteries; while in Cambodia, it is used to solve the problems and as a result the losers (the victims) always get hurt from serious injuries.
Yesterday, another acid attack
Three garment workers and one little boy were injured in an acid attack on Wednesday outside the factory in which the three women work.
People said the attack is because of love triangle. Victims were immediately sent to the hospital after being attacked.

This concert was held on Koh Pech (Diamond Island) by a christian group. We, my friends and I, didn’t have plan to join; we just ride motors passed a mall and saw it by chance. The concert’s not too bad! Loud music and wonderful songs made the wonderful event…[slideshow]

13/08/2010, Phnom Penh – It’s about 12:30pm after I’ve finished my lonely lunch. Don’t wanna rush back to the office, so I decided to call 3 of my friends (Tivea from the Phnom Penh Post, Makara and Pheaktra from the Economic Magazine) to leave their offices to ride around the city. Audiences both Cambodians and foreigners were crammed into Chaktomuk hall tonight so that some of them have to stand even though they had ticket for their seats. Today’s the last day for the 5 day celebration of the Cambodian Youth Arts Festival 2010 (CYAF). The performances at the main stage this afternoon are: 1. Contemporary dance “Future Flight” by Epic Arts; 2. Pop Song by Pou Khlaing; 3. Innovative Mohaori Song by Meng Keo Pechta 4. Chapei dang Weng by Master Suon San; 5. Classical Dance “Glass Box” by Khmer Arts; 6. Large Shadow Puppet “Sa Neakabas” performed collaboratively by Wat Bo Troupe, Sala Kansaeng Troupe, Kok Thlok Association for Artists, and Sovanna Phum Arts Association; 7. New Dance “Motanak Pheap Cheat Khmer” by Association for Conservation of Arts and Culture; 8. Hip Hop Dance by Tiny Toones; 9. Folk Dance “Chhaiyam” by Children of Bassac. Tomorrow will be the last day for the Cambodian Youth Arts Festival 2010, which is planed to celebrate for 5 days started from 07th August, 2010. I am happy to have spent around 3 hours tonight at Chaktumuk theater since there are lots of fantastic performances. The performances at the main stage this afternoon are : 1. Spoken Theater “The Tear of a Victimized Woman” by Fine Arts Association; 2. Folk Dance “White Dove Dance” by Mith Samlanh; 3. Pop Song by Soh Mach and Him Sivon; 4. Yike Opera “Nesai Snae Chab Cheap Kabas” by Khi Mom’s troupe. NOTE:Some parts of songs sang by Soh Mach and Him Sivon are uploaded for my dear visitors. I also include some parts from Yike Opera by Khi Mom’s troupe as well. Cheers,

Festival for All: Cambodian Youth Arts Festival 2010
Phnom Penh, August 10, 2010—Through the Cambodian Youth Arts Festival 2010 (CYAF), artists from different backgrounds from 24 art institutions from Cambodia and the world including disabled artists, have been joining hands together to showcase a diverse array of Cambodian art forms. The festival will end on August 11th.
Upcoming performances will be just as impressive including Large Shadow Puppetry (an intangible cultural heritage preserved by UNESCO and will be performed collaboratively by the four remaining puppet groups that have never played together; innovative Mohauri Song by Meng Keo Pichta; Pop Song by Pou Khlaing, Hem Sivon, and Soh Mach; contemporary dance by Epic Arts; Hip Hop dance by Tiny Toones; Spoken Theater, and folk dances.
Since August 7th, more than 3,000 people, both local and international, came to the sold out performances that included Teveak Sreysuor, a classical dance taken from the carvings of Bayon temple and was re-created in late 2009; Saen Phum, indigenous dances; the international musical, Winds of Angkor that included Bosba Panh among its performers; Chapei Dang Weng by legendary Master Kong Nai; the international rock operal, Where the Elephants Weep, contemporary dance; circus and many others.
CYAF aims to increase awareness of the arts, both traditional and contemporary, among Cambodians youth, educators, practitioners, and supporters. 500 artists from different backgrounds have been participating in CYAF 2010.

Cambodia on Wednesday morning destroyed 20 tons of medicines which had been illegally imported to the kingdom.
25 types of drugs which probably cost from 20,000 dollars to 30,000 dollars were burned in another crackdown after series of illegal drug burning action have been started since the March of 2010, said Mak Chito, Penal Department Police Chief.
“I destroy it in the purpose of destroying the illegal medicines and protect human health,” said Mak Chito.

Hor Namhong, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, do a press conference on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hor Namhong said that a demand suggested by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on a joint listing of Preah Vihear Temple as World Heritage Site was “out of date” and that was only “Abhisit’s dream”.

As said on Wednesday morning during a graduation ceremony, prime minister Hun Sen praise the tribunal decision on Kang Guek Eav aka Duch who used to be the Khmer Rouge’s torturer in chief.
“Cambodian government respects the court’s decision because the court is independent, so it’s depend on the court to decide how many years Duch should serve,” said Hun Sen, adding that the government has no right to interfere or putting pressure into the court.
